FORMER TAXI DRIVER IN UK GUNS FOR KENYAN PRESIDENCY

Jaffer Isaak, who came to London 10 years ago, will mount his challenge at the election in August next year, pledging a «revolution» to unite his people.

The 38-year-old father-of-three says he is hoping to fund his campaign through donations from ordinary people rather than the support of «fat businessmen».He has set up a website and a Facebook page to attract supporters worldwide.

Mr Isaak drove cabs for AzA Cars in Hounslow before setting up his own firm, J&Z Executive Travel.He divides his time between Britain and Mombasa.He hopes to replace president Mwai Kibaki, who is standing down after a second term.Mr Isaak told the Evening Standard: «When they ask me if I can be Obama.I say I can be an even better one.I want to lead a revolution that will lead to an evolution.I am not a tribal guy.The tribalism will not end as long as politicians are benefiting from it.»

Mr Isaak, from Moyale in northern Kenya, appealed to Londoners and the Kenyan community to back his campaign: «I came to England 10 years ago.If I had not I would be in my local village doing nothing.Why can’t my own country give me the same opportunities?
