Increase in body temperature to 37.8 degrees Celsius can cause temporary relief of symptoms of autism in children.American study has confirmed the observations made earlier by some doctors and parents of sick children, said Journal of Pediatrics.The head of research Andrew Zimmerman (Andrew Zimmerman) and his colleagues at the Kennedy Krieger Institute (Kennedy Krieger Institute) in Baltimore analyzed data on medical examinations of children in those periods when they had recorded fever (above 37.8 degrees) as a result of certain diseases .The study included 30 children aged 2-18 years with autism.It was found that 80% of fever accompanied by positive changes in behavior, while 30% noted a significant relief of symptoms of autism.In young patients markedly improved concentration, eye contact, they became more talkative and easier contact with other children and adults, the researchers reported.Researchers have suggested that fever is accompanied by the restoration of broken contacts between nerve cells in the brains of autistic or formation of new connections between cells."Our findings are very important because it shows that the autistic brain is plastic and can change its structure in response to various conditions and situations" - said Zimmerman.Autism and other so-called "autism spectrum disorders" are fairly common.Only with the U.S.they suffer about 1,5 million inhabitants, suggests the American Society of autism.Meanwhile, the causes of the disease remain unknown, and effective methods of treatment currently exists.According to the researchers, further study of the "effect of high temperature" may lead to new treatments for autism.
